"Suffering the Slings and Arrows of Outrageous Fortune"

Em hurt her foot today at our homeschool co-op – she rolled her ‘bad’ ankle, again.  She valiantly attempted to talk me out of taking her to the ER. Then, towards the end of her spiel, she stated with dawning horror… “Mom, I can’t go to the doctor – I haven’t shaved my legs in, like, a week!”

Yes, folks, even in the middle of a crisis and in great pain, EDS gals can be vain. And, yes, we can find something to laugh at, even when things aren’t so funny.

Of course, the whole ankle/foot injury is not so funny. This is the same foot she injured a year ago – sprained, microfractured, bruised the bone: take your pick of the various opinions we got at the time since no one really agreed. That same injury led to a bout of RSD that was scary and painful. Fortunately, she beat back the RSD fairly easily but we surely don’t need round 2.

Her foot is bruised and her toes are cold – pretty much exactly what she did last time. And it is the weekend, so getting to the ortho will have to wait. All we can do is make her rest that foot and keep an eye on her. I don’t want to go to the ER if we can possibly avoid it – her spiel earlier was pointless because I had no plans to waste our evening on an ER visit that would be utterly useless. Of course, if we have to go, so be it but that is always an experience we avoid if possible.

She also had a latex reaction this afternoon at Walmart and had to take a Benedryl. What a fun day we have had! Good thing we still have a sense of humor. 🙂
